From Damascus to Höxter
Since February 2026, Mohamad Rawda has brought real Syrian shawarma to the Weser — fresh off the spit, at his shop on Stummrigestraße 2 in Höxter.
A dream of his own place
For years, Mohamad Rawda worked at a snack bar in the Holzminden district — always with the wish to one day open a place of his own. In early February 2026 that dream came true: at Stummrigestraße 2 in Höxter, the 40-year-old now runs his “Shawarma Damaskus”.
Shawarma is a Syrian specialty loved across the Arab world. It is similar to Döner — but made with its own blend of spices and Arabic bread. In fact, each portion uses two kinds of bread: a thinly rolled flatbread and a second one so fine that light shines through it. Add chicken or veal, fresh sauces and salad, all rolled into a wrap.
But Shawarma Damaskus isn’t only about the spit. The menu is a mix of Arabic dishes and German favourites: schnitzel with fries and salad, filled baguettes, pasta and pizza — including the “Höxter” pizza topped with shawarma, corn, mushrooms, peperoni and hollandaise. Tuesdays are Pizza Day: every pizza €8.50.
For now it’s a one-man show: Mohamad does everything himself — from shopping and preparation to delivery — with a lot of heart and a clear goal.
„What matters to me is that the customers are happy.“— Mohamad Rawda, owner
The best thing to do? Just drop by, ask, and taste for yourself.
